Ages 6-13: The Learning Years

School-aged children between the ages of 6 and 13 undergo significant physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. For many children in this age range, these years are focused on forming friendships, developing a stronger sense of self, and gaining more independence (which can look different for each individual). They are also learning to navigate social norms and expectations.

New Hampshire’s network of Family Resource Centers offers many opportunities to learn about parenting children from 6 to 13. Some offer programs such as tween/teen support groups and homework clubs. In addition, our lending library has many books on parenting for this age group and books for children and teens. You’ll find these and more resources below to support your family’s journey.
