Support at home and in the community

Below, you’ll find agencies and organizations that provide family support through various programs and initiatives. If you are looking for disability-specific organizations, please search our resources by diagnosis under the “How Can We Help” tab at the top of the page.

NH Family Voices does not run the support groups listed here. We provide this listing to support the families and professionals we serve. Click on the group you’re interested in and contact them directly using the information provided. Since support groups frequently change, it’s always a good idea to call the contact number to confirm the meeting times, locations, and frequency before you go. Keep in mind that many groups require registration. If you can’t find what you’re looking for here, try checking with community hospitals and organizations for more options.

Finding the services or care you need for your child can be difficult. Whether challenged by too many or too few options, here are some general things to consider:

  • Referral: A referral may be required; be sure you’ve discussed your concerns with your child’s primary care provider (PCP).
  • Insurance: All insurance companies have different networks. Find out who is “in-network” for any service your child needs. If access to needed care does not exist within the network, contact case management at your insurance company to discuss your challenge to locate a provider for a covered benefit.

Things to consider when choosing between providers when you have multiple options:

  • Does the provider have experience working with children with your child’s disability? And if so, how many years of experience?
  • If the provider sees patients across the age span, what percentage of their practice is pediatric?

Places to look for information:

  • The provider’s website: Does their approach and philosophy align with yours?
  • Other members of your child’s care team (PCP, care coordinator, case manager): While they may not be able to recommend one practice over another, they may share what they have heard from families whose children have similar support needs.
  • Other families: Families are often a valuable source of information regarding individual providers and working with a practice (scheduling, communication, billing). Just note that personality plays a factor. One parent may connect with a provider that another parent does not.
