Staying Connected with Your Teen - Virtual Workshop Series

September 8, 2020

A free ten-hour virtual workshop for parents of teens to increase communication skills, improve management, and strengthen the family bonds.

Parent involvement is critical in reducing or preventing adolescent participation in high-risk behaviors.  But how do parents influence their children positively during adolescence – a time of increased independence and time spent with peers?

Staying Connected with Your Teen® is a proven-effective, science-based, interactive workshop that gets parents and teens working together to enhance communication and family management practices and decrease conflict. Through a series of video- and workshop-based modules, parents improve their family management practices and strengthen the bonds between them and their children, resulting in substance misuse prevention, violence prevention, and positive character development.

The program is split into either five two-hour workshops or two five-hour days and will be held across the state in each of the 13 regional public health networks. The program may be implemented as either a traditional workshop series or a take-home self-study program with Teen Institute distance learning support.

You can learn more about the curriculum on the Channing-Bete website.
